Sovano privacy notice
Last updated 17 September 2026.
Who we are
Chris Atkinson runs Sovano and decides how its data is used. Write to catkinson@gmail.com with any question about your data, or to ask for a copy of it.
What we collect, and why
- Your email address, to sign you in with a code, and to send the weekly newsletter if you ask for it.
- Your Home City, the city you choose for the newsletter. We never read your phone's location.
- Your newsletter settings: whether it is on, whether email reaches you, and when you agreed to receive it.
- The events you received, so the links in each newsletter keep working and can save an event to your phone.
- What you scan: a poster photo, a web address, or an event's name, and for Discover a summary of the kinds of events you keep. These are used to answer that one request and are not stored.
- How many credits each request used, to apply your daily allowance.
- If you are an Editor, the notes you write for a newsletter footnote.
Your saved events and your taste profile live on your phone.
How long we keep it
| Data | Kept for |
|---|---|
| Your account and the email address you sign in with | Until you delete your account |
| Your newsletter address, Home City, and settings | While the newsletter is on, and 30 days after you turn it off |
| A week's newsletter and its event links | 90 days after that week ends |
| Credit usage | 90 days |
| Email delivery results | 30 days |
| An Editor's notes | 30 days after the last change, or 14 days after publication once approved |
| Service logs, which never contain your email, notes, or what you scanned | 14 to 30 days |
Who else handles it
- Amazon Web Services hosts Sovano in the European Union: sign-in, storage, email, and city search.
- OpenAI reads what you scan to describe the event, writes each city's newsletter from public event pages, and drafts an Editor's footnote from their notes. Newsletter requests carry no details about Subscribers. OpenAI may process requests outside the European Union.
We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising.
Your choices
- Turn the newsletter off from the link in any newsletter email, or in the app's Account screen.
- Delete your account in the app's Account screen. That removes your email address, Home City, settings, newsletters, event links, credit usage, and any Editor notes from our servers. Events saved on your phone stay there.
- If you only use the newsletter by email, write to catkinson@gmail.com and we will delete your data.
- You can ask for a copy of your data, or for it to be corrected, at the same address. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
